There are destructive forces all over our world frustrating all of us with their insidious damage.
Natural disasters seem to be increasing. Floods, tornados, droughts, hurricanes, volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, and more. And we long for relief.
Even if these don't hit our town, we may know people in towns that are hit. And, there are personal disasters. Cancer, heart problems, arthritis, Alzheimer's, accidents, and a myriad of other sufferings. And we long for relief.
Others disappoint us and sometimes wreak great havoc in our lives. Biting, devouring, and inflicting all kinds of pain on us. And we wonder, "Will relief ever come?"
When we feel betrayed by the world, our own bodies, and others, it's hard. We often don't know what to pray or how to pray. We can feel so vulnerable, scattered, and lost.
But then we can remember. Even in the midst of the hurricane there can be a place of calm. Resurrection does follow crucifixion. His Spirit still hovers over our formless, empty, deep darkness. Our Father still specializes in bringing order out of chaos.
STRENGTH FOR THE JOURNEY
"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will" (Romans 8:22 NIV).
