TCM Board policy requires short-term workers to be at least 21 years of age.
Short-term workers need to have a servant heart and must be in good to excellent physical condition. Work areas include maintenance, grounds keeping, housekeeping, kitchen duty, hosting tables, and any other projects or tasks that need to be completed.
Work days are approximately 12 hours long. Depending upon the area in which you are assigned, tasks will vary. Tasks may require any of the following: lifting, standing, walking, bending, being on your knees, digging, climbing stairs, or climbing ladders, etc.
Trip costs vary depending upon airline prices, the time of year when you will be traveling, and miscellaneous costs.
Airline prices can range from $800 in February (construction trip) to $2,500 during the height of the travel season in July and August.
While serving at the TCMI Institute, on-campus lodging and meals are included.
Miscellaneous trip costs include two Sunday afternoon excursions and a day in Vienna. You will need to budget how much you wish to spend on snacks, personal souvenirs, and tours when on the excursions. A closing evening meal will also be held at a nearby Austrian restaurant. These costs are all optional.
There are a number of ways you can help Eastern Europeans and Central Asians through TCM.
1) Sponsor a student through the Scholarship Program.
2) Buy a cookbook. Proceeds from the sale help fund student scholarships.
3) Partner with TCM on Capital Campaign projects.
4) Or simply give a gift toward "Where Needed Most" to help TCM with the day-to-day expenses of the ministry.
5) Be a short-term worker.
6) Donate good used clothing.
7) Volunteer your time to help sort and box donated clothing at Flat Rock Christian Church, TCM's Clothing Ministry site. Or help pack the container when one is scheduled to be shipped overseas.
More in-depth information is available under the following headings: Giving to TCM; Volunteer Opportunities; and Make a Donation.
Approximately 200 short-term workers are needed each year to assist the staff at the TCMI Institute. The short-term worker schedule fills very quickly. Church donors schedule their mission trip programs in advance. Therefore, TCM is often scheduling up to 2 years ahead. Please check with your church to see if they have already scheduled dates with TCM.
To schedule individually, please contact Carol Fields, TCM's Office Manager and STW Coordinator, with the dates and year that you prefer to serve. Please also share your e-mail address and phone number with her. These are the fastest ways that she can contact you. Due to demand, TCM has a waitlist and your name may need to be placed on this list. You will be notified when an opening occurs for the dates you specified.
Cancellations do occur throughout the year for many reasons, family, medical, business, financial, etc. Therefore, openings may occur at the last minute. If you would like to be contacted when last minute openings are known, please let Carol know (Carol@tcmi.org or 317.299.0333).
If you must arrive in Vienna prior to (or depart after) the specified TCM session dates at Haus Edelweiss, you will need to make hotel accommodations in the Vienna area. There are hotels and pensions (bed and breakfast) near the airport and in Vienna proper should you want to spend time sightseeing prior to or after your days at Haus Edelweiss. TCM recommends that you make these arrangements on-line or with a travel agent before leaving the U.S. You can either use the links located on the "Links" page of our site or simply do a "Vienna Hotels or Pensions" search on the Internet. You will be given many options.
If you are interested in touring the TCM's Haus Edelweiss property, please contact Debbie Poer at debbie@tcmi.org to make arrangements.
