Dear Friend,
I believe the point of everything is that God wants children. And such a Good Father is greatly pleased when His kids help each other. John's Gospel begins with God's light coming into our darkness. The light shines more and more powerfully throughout. But many reject it, prefer darkness, or deny the Truth.

GUIDANCE
The ultimate of spiritual maturity is spiritual service. We feast by the fire of God's love. We partake of His presence. We are cleansed and healed by the embers of His Heart. Then, we are ready to give Him the sacrificial love He deserves. Agape, Golgotha love (not just brotherly), good will.
|
PERSPECTIVE
Indeed, our worship is a marriage between experiencing God and obeying God. We love Him by loving them. We worship the best as we serve the most. When our resurrected Lord asks, we should gladly comply. But, like Peter at breakfast, we are not ready. Because, as he looks across the fire at us, he asks not for something spectacular. He asks for something simple. Something that every parent can understand.

STRENGTH FOR THE JOURNEY
This spiritual experience could not have been more real. No worship service could be more powerful. They breakfasted with the RISEN LORD! They saw him, touched him, smelled him, and heard his voice. Following the meal, as they sat around the fire, Jesus turned His full attention to the one who had just denied Him three times.
"Simon son of John, do you truly love (agape) me more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love (phileo) you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs."
Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love (agape) me?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love (phileo) you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep."
The third time Jesus said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love (phileo) me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things, you know that I love (phileo) you."
Jesus re-instates Peter with these words, "Feed my sheep. I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go." Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. He was to be taken away by the Romans, bound in prison, and crucified.
For the sake of His children.
