GUIDANCE

"If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" (Luke 11:13 NIV).

PERSPECTIVE

There once was a little girl who loved pretty colors. She always noticed and took great delight in them. That is why her father was concerned when the family inherited some dishes from a family member. The steak knives had beautiful, ornate, multi-colored handles. So the father showed them to his little girl with a warning: "Sweetheart, I love you and don't want you to get hurt. So please do not touch these knives. They are sharp and you might cut yourself."

STRENGTH FOR THE JOURNEY

One afternoon the little girl was bored and went to the dining room. She knew she should not touch the knives, but just wanted to look at the pretty, colorful handles. As she took them from the drawer, she cut her finger badly.

Where could she go? She was completely guilty after ignoring her father's warning.

Seeing the blood and feeling the pain, she could do nothing else. She ran to her father. Holding up her bleeding finger, she looked at him through tears and said simply: "Father, help me!"

Taking her into his strong arms, he took her to the sink and washed her wound. He then put medicine and a bandage on her finger. Then he held her close and spoke tenderly to her while she wept on his shoulder. Wiping away her tears, he gently reminded her that this was the reason for his warning. He loved her so much he did not want her to be hurt like this.
